The Associate
Director will assume a senior role in the
management of the National Program Office
(NPO), working closely with the Program Director,
Michael Yedidia, Ph.D., to develop and implement
a four-year national initiative to fund evaluations
of innovations that address the consequences
of the nurse faculty shortage by increasing
teaching productivity and/or improving faculty
work-life, recruitment, or retention. The
initiative is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation. The Associate Director will participate
in developing the initiative’s strategy,
policies, budgets, work and communications
plans while managing day-to-day program operations.
Key elements of the position include collaborating
on program design, grants management and
monitoring, coordinating National Advisory
Committee activities, overseeing technical
assistance, assuring that program activities
are well coordinated and consistent with
Center, Institute, and University administrative
functions, serving as primary liaison between
the Foundation and the grantee sites, and
promoting communications through electronic
and print media.
The Associate Director will work under the
general direction and supervision of Michael
Yedidia, NPO Director; and will provide leadership
and supervision to project team members,
consultants, and vendors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creates strategic plan with Program Director
to include the development and management
of policy, grantmaking, and budgets;
- Creates and oversees
program’s
operating structure in close consultation
with the Program Director and Center management;
- Works with Foundation communications
staff to design and implement communications
strategy;
- Coordinates and monitors provision of
evaluation assistance to grantees;
- Works with NPO staff to manage all components
of the annual grantee meetings;
- Works with Director to advance the field
by networking, coordinating and promoting
NPO activities with other national organizations,
interested parties, and partners;
- Represents the program and promotes the
work of the NPO and grantees at selected
national forums, conferences, and meetings;
- Coordinates activities of National Advisory
Committee;
- Ensures compliance with all grant-related
reporting requirements, including both
financial and narrative progress reports.
Qualifications
Requires
a Master’s degree in nursing, public
health, public policy, or a related field
with a minimum of three years of experience
in program management, preferably in the
health field. Advanced degree and five years
preferred. Requires knowledge or interest
in nursing education, expertise or interest
in program evaluation, and proven management,
organizational, fiscal, and analytic skills.
Must have excellent oral and written communications
skills, including public speaking and presentation;
excellent interpersonal skills including
ability to problem-solve and resolve conflicts
effectively; demonstrated ability to take
initiative and implement a strategic work
plan; and ability to work with diverse populations
and staff. Travel will be required.

Recruiting for up to 2 positions
Responsible
for day-to-day coordination of assigned research,
policy analysis, and related projects. Responsible
for collecting qualitative and quantitative
data and assembling data from secondary sources.
Provides analytical support for Center research
activities in such areas as obesity prevention,
nursing education, healthcare workforce,
health care disparities, and quality assessment
and improvement. Working with the Center's
senior research staff and faculty, makes
contributions to the design and preparation
of grant applications, including contributing
content expertise on selected grants. Responsible
for the collection and maintenance of all
project-related files and documentation,
including maintenance of records in compliance
with regulations regarding research with
human subjects. Contributes to writing of
interim and final project reports. Includes
opportunities to develop advanced policy
analysis and project management skills, to
work closely with policymakers, and to participate
in policy briefings, academic presentations
and publication of research findings.
Requires a master's degree in social science,
policy analysis/administration or public
health, and approximately three years of
experience in sponsored research projects.
Additional graduate courses, up to a PhD,
may be substituted for one year of experience.
Must be well organized and have strong interpersonal,
time management, and written and oral communications
skills. Knowledge of statistical analysis
software (SAS or SPSS) and PC applications
(e.g., MS Word and Excel) is essential. Research
or project management experience in the areas
of obesity prevention, healthcare workforce,
nursing education, health care disparities,
or quality improvement and measurement are
a plus, as is fluency in Spanish.

Analyst/Fellow in Health Policy and Philanthropy

Reports
to the Principal Investigator. Serves as
Research Analyst/Fellow in the Center for
State Health Policy (center) - Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation (Foundation) Fellowship
in Health Policy and Philanthropy. At the
center, participates in research projects
aimed at informing, supporting, and stimulating
effective health policy in New Jersey and
around the nation. At the Foundation, assists
in synthesizing findings from research and
evaluation projects for dissemination to
policy audiences and the general public.
These experiences offer distinct opportunities
to enhance policy analysis and research skills,
refine ability to translate research results
into accessible policy briefs, and gain a
firsthand view of the functioning of a major
foundation and its efforts to maximize the
impact of its grant-making. Works with study
investigators providing data collection and
analytic support at the university and with
the foundation's teams disseminating findings
relevant to a number of critical policy areas
including childhood obesity, health insurance
coverage, public health, health care quality,
and vulnerable populations. The Center for
State Health Policy, located within the Institute
for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging
Research at Rutgers University serves the
health policy needs of New Jersey and other
states. More than 20 faculty and research
staff from diverse disciplines work on a
wide range of research and technical assistance
projects related to health and long-term
care policy. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

Requires a master's degree in a social science
discipline, policy analysis/administration,
or public health with at least three years
experience in social research projects, or
a related bachelor's degree with five years
of experience. Requires excellent interpersonal,
time management, and communication skills.
Knowledge of software for statistical or
qualitative analysis is preferred. Requires
strong writing skills and an ability to synthesize
research findings. Later in the hiring process,
candidates will be asked to complete a writing
assignment.
